
A native of Joliet, IL, Pastor Wendell Martin is the fourth son of Pastor and Mrs. Edward Martin Jr. He accepted the call to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the age of 17, receiving his license that same year, and was ordained at 20. Pastor Martin has served as Youth Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Joliet, IL (2004-2007); Rock of Ages Baptist Church in Maywood, IL (2007-2009); and The House of Hope Atlanta in Decatur, GA (2009-2013). He also served as Co-Pastor at CityPoint Community Church in Chicago, IL (2014-2018). Currently, he is the Senior Pastor of the historic Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Joliet, IL.
With a focus on biblically rooted, God-honoring organizational leadership, Pastor Martin has led Mt. Olive through a period of rejuvenation and renewal. His vision and strategic planning have revitalized the church in areas of worship, evangelism, and community outreach, fostering holistic growth and deeper congregational engagement. His operational expertise and business acumen have significantly strengthened the church’s financial health, positioning it to maximize its impact in the community.
Known for his practical, comedic, and creative approach to preaching, Pastor Martin has a passion for discipling believers. He is also deeply committed to community development and advocates for educational and economic equality. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf and proudly claims the title of “Grill Master.”
Pastor Martin is married to the intelligent and beautiful Sharralyn (Brass) Martin. Together, they are the proud parents of one daughter, Avalyn Sarah, and twin sons, Avery Saul and Austin Edward.
